- Slow Flow Nipples

0
Our line of nfant® nipples features increasing flow rates to match every baby’s feeding stage and style. We created our graduated flow rate system based on science-based clinical testing of flow rate data and how baby’s respond.

The Problem with Other Brand Nipples

We talked to nurses and clinicians at NICUs and pediatric hospitals across the country who work daily with infants with feeding challenges. The biggest problem they faced? Lack of consistency in flow rates in the nipples produced and sold to consumers by top brands today.

Many parents may be surprised to learn that there is no standard measurement for a slow flow nipple. One brand’s newborn nipple may be faster or slower than the next. In fact, clinicians told our team that they’ve even found varying slow rates in nipples manufactured by the same brand. This inconsistency can exacerbate or even lead to infant feeding problems.

Scientifically Proven Flow Rates

  • nfant® Control Flow Nipples are the most consistent in every flow category
  • nfant® Extra Slow Nipple is the slowest nipple on the market
  • nfant® Slow Flow Nipple is ranked as the slowest flow in its category
  • nfant® Standard Flow Nipple is significantly slower than any of the competitors in this category
  • nfant® No Flow Nipple is the only no-flow trainer available

How Do I Choose the Right Nipple for My Baby?

For newborns, premature and breastfeeding babies, a slower flow rate is generally better.

  • Try a slower flow rate nipple if you see gulping, coughing, choking or milk dripping from your baby’s mouth.
  • If your baby finished a bottle quickly (10 minutes or less) and does not seem satisfied, consider moving down a level.

Training Solutions for Preemies

Our No Flow Trainer is like our other nipples but without a hole. It is designed to be used with infants transitioning from tube feeding to bottle feeding so babies can safely practice sucking.

When Do I Switch Nipples?

Some babies use the same nipple throughout their first year of life. That’s okay! Every baby develops differently, and there’s no standard or age-based system for “graduating” to the next speed. You should move up a level when your baby is ready.

Signs your baby may need a faster flow:

  • Taking too long (30 minutes or more) to finish a bottle
  • Refusing the bottle
  • Baby seems frustrated
