About Us
The birth of a premier brand.
Today, the name “Metro” is synonymous with “Shelving,” but did you know that Wire Shelving was not our first product line? Metro introduced the first Erecta shelf in 1956, but what many people don't realize is that we have a long-standing history that dates all the way back to 1929.
Metro was founded in November of 1929 by Louis Maslow as Metropolitan Wire Goods Corporation. Maslow, a self-educated engineer and an excellent wire mechanic, had the perception to see the application of wire products within the food service industry. Metro currently holds over 200 patents and to this day Metro continues to be the epitome of high quality storage products. Our commitment to excellence and determination to develop innovative products and services has allowed us to exceed customer expectations; leading to unparalleled success in the industry for nearly a century. We continue to pursue perfection by intensifying our presence in non-wire storage and workspace solutions markets while maintaining our foundation in wire shelving.
Metro in motion.
Today, Metro has a global manufacturing and distribution footprint that enables us to provide over 30,000 products to our customers all over the world. Our 1,300 employees in 10 countries are eager and ready to serve.

Our devotion extends through all areas of our business from raw material procurement through finished product delivery to our customers, from manufacturing processes in the plant to administrative functions in the office as well as in the field and from product design in specifying recycled/recyclable materials through product manufacturing in running high yield rates and recycling excess/scrap materials.
At Metro, we are actively pursuing improvements within our organization to do our part in preserving our planet for generations to come.
